Signal no. 2 raised over parts of Bicol as ‘Enteng’ develops into tropical storm
GUINOBATAN, Albay—Caramoan town in Camarines Sur and all 11 towns of Catanduanes have been placed under tropical cyclone wind signal no. 2 as “Enteng” (international name: Yagi) intensified into a tropical storm on Sunday evening.
The rest of the Bicol Region are still under tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1.
Tropical Storm Enteng was last seen over the coastal waters of Bagamanoc town in Catanduanes and was moving northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour with the maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kilometers per hour, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) 11 p.m. briefing.
The state weather bureau has so far not recorded any landfall, but they are expecting one as soon as “Enteng” is in the vicinity of mainland Northern Luzon or Babuyan Islands.
Tropical Storm Enteng is expected to bring up to 200 millimeters of rain over Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Polillo Island, and the southern portion of mainland Quezon.
According to the Coast Guard District Bicol, 750 passengers have so far been stranded in Bicol ports, most of which are in Matnog port in Sorsogon, where 354 passengers will be seeking shelter for the night.
The Land Transportation Office Bicol has discouraged motorists from going to sea ports in order to avoid congestion in ports all over the region.
