Sorsogon City’s Gayon Cuidad Festival wins P1M in Kasanggayahan’s regional festival of festivals
SORSOGON CITY—After wowing the five judges during the Regional Festival of Festivals competition, this city’s Gayon Ciudad won the P1 million grand prize as it was crowned Bicol Region’s queen of festivals.
The competition was held on the second day of the 50th Kasanggayahan Festival in the province of the Sorsogon.
Bulusan’s Bulusan Festival won second place, while Daraga’s Cagsawa Festival won third place, winning the contingents P750,000 and P500,000 each.
Gayon Ciudad also won Best in Moving Choreography, Best Festival Queem, and Best in Costume, while Bulusan won Best in Musicality.
The other contingents during the event were Legazpi City’s Ibalong Festival, Cawayan’s Kahamugaway Festival, Daet’s Pinyasan Festival, Caramoran’s Sugbo Festival, and Baao’s Kamuy-an Festival.
They were also joined by the placers during the Historico Cultural Parade Street Dance, the provincial festival of festivals that was held on the first day of Kasanggayahan Festival: Bulan’s Padaraw Festival as the second placer and Pilar’s Parau Festival as the third place. The first placer was Bulusan Festival.
Gayon Ciudad did not compete in the provincial category as the host city.
They were all judged by dance master Abigail Palma; regional tourism officers Karina Rosa Tiopes (Eastern Visayas) and Troy Alexander Miano (Cagayan Valley); National Commission for Culture and Arts’ Peter de Vera, and StarPop PH Label Head Roque “Rox” Santos.
Sorsogon City, Bulusan, and Daraga are set to compete in the National Festival of Festivals on the third day of Kasanggayahan, Oct. 16.
They will all vie for the first the P4 million grand prize while competing against festivals from Luzon and Visayas.
