Camalig town reports 42.5% increase in tourism revenue

Camalig town in Albay reported on Thursday, Aug. 30, that its tourism revenue from January to June this year reached P2.7 million, a 42.5 percent increase from last year’s P1.9 million.

The town’s revenue are from registrations and environmental fees collected at the destination frequented by tourists.

The Camalig Public Information Office credits this hike in revenue to Solong Eco-Park in Solong village, Quituinan Rank and Tunnel in Tinago village, Sumlang Lake in Sumlang village, Hoyop-Hoyopan Cave in Cotmon village, Quitinday Green Hills in Quitinday village, and El Miro De Shei in Salugan village.

Thirty percent of the shares from were distributed to the villages via cheque, according to the PIO. This move follows a local ordinance that aims to financially support the villages’ tourism, cultural, and environmental projects to serve tourists better.

Sumlang received a total of P409,620, while P259,956 went to Tinago, P66,570 to Quitinday, P51,138, for Cotmon, P23,100 for Solong, and P11,388 for Salugan.

In a social media post, Jed Villanueva, the town’s tourism officer, thanked both tourists patronizing Camalig and the owners of the attractions in Camalig for supporting the town’s tourism initiatives.
