GUINOBATAN, Albay—The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) warned the public on Tuesday evening against false reports of a Mayon Volcano eruption.

A now deleted post from a page called Philippine Weather Alert falsely claimed that a quick phreatic eruption at 6:29 p.m. and lasted for less than a minute.

The misinformation claimed that the information came from Phivolcs and even included a link to an “actual footage.”

In a social media post warning against the misinformation, Phivolcs reminded the public not to spread information not emanating from the agency.

“This may cause confusion and fear among those who may read this,” according to Pagasa.
